I’ve received a review copy of this book from e-books for review. The title and short summary sounded nice to me and therefore I accepted this book.

What the book is about

Can life really turn on a dime,
a missed bus—
or a stuck pastry shop door?

Chloe Dillard’s life has always been complicated. Her mother is a neurotic romance novelist and her boyfriend, Mathew, has been pressuring her to go “all the way”—even as one of her own best friends offers to accommodate him.

But after The Worst Night of Her Life, Chloe escapes on her Senior Class trip to the swoon-worthy city of Paris which takes her mind off her troubles—temporarily. On the final leg of her dream trip, Chloe squeezes in one final run for a last-minute box of decadent pastries. Add a stuck door, subtract a broken four-inch heel from her cute strappy sandals, and Chloe ends up one stuck girl on the bakery shop floor with a sprained ankle.

Rescued by the shop owner’s dreamy son with chocolate-syrup eyes, the beautiful city of Paris suddenly becomes Chloe’s personal secret adventure. And even though Jean-Paul, the oh-so-kind La Patisserie shop boy is the gentlemanly guy Chloe has always dreamed of, even he has a girlfriend.

The police are tracking her down as a run-away, Mom’s having a nervous breakdown over her daughter’s “disappearance”, and Chloe’s just trying to have a Happily-Ever-After even as her dreams with Matt are swirling down the drain.

Could being lost in the city of Paris be just what the doctor ordered? What’s a girl to do in the most romantic city in the world?

What I think about the book

First of all I would like to say that it was such a sweet story. Not only because of all the chocolate eclairs and other pastries, but also because of the sweet love story between Chloe and Jean-Paul. At first Chloe seemed pretty clumsy and it was really annoying that she missed her bus because she really needed to buy more pastries before catching her tour bus. Seriously? I thought it was a bit cliche, especially because Jean-Paul was there right away to save our damsel in distress. It gets better though!

Now that Chloe can spend more time in Paris, she takes you with her in her adventures in the city. At the same time, every chapter contains some fragments of the past couple of months, where Chloe thinks about her boyfriend at home. Mathew, the cheater. Mathew, the one who she thought was supposed to be the love of her life. Of course it’s clear from the beginning that Chloe and Jean-Paul like each other and that something will happen, but I must admit that I didn’t mind it that much. In fact, I was rooting for them. That must say something, coming from a girl who has no romantic bone in her body!

Most of all Paris Cravings makes me want to see Paris. I haven’t been there since May 2000. Back then I was there with my high school class as well. I have also seen Paris with my parents. Maybe it’s about time to go back and discover Paris in my own pace, so that I can enjoy the city the way I have read about it in several novels. That would mean I would make time to shop, walk around, discover some lovely chocolate shops and enjoy the lovely food and wines that France has to offer. Who is with me?
