Sinner – Maggie Stiefvater
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: ★★★★★
This is the 4th book of the Wolves of Mercy Fall series. When it came out, I wanted to read it as I loved these series about werewolves that shift when the temperature changes. It was good. This part is not about Grace and Sam, the main characters from the first three books. Instead it’s about Cole and Isabel.
What the book is about
Sinner follows Cole St. Clair, a pivotal character from the #1 New York Times bestselling Shiver Trilogy. Everybody thinks they know Cole’s story. Stardom. Addiction. Downfall. Disappearance. But only a few people know Cole’s darkest secret — his ability to shift into a wolf. One of these people is Isabel. At one point, they may have even loved each other. But that feels like a lifetime ago. Now Cole is back. Back in the spotlight. Back in the danger zone. Back in Isabel’s life. Can this sinner be saved?
What I think about the book
First of all, I think it is necessary to read the whole series before reading Sinner. Even if the main characters aren’t the same, the story does continue and mentions lots of situations that have happened before. One needs the background story to be able to fully enjoy this one.
That being said, it was nice to get to know both Cole and Isabel a lot better than before. I think their ‘relationship’ is a good one for a story. The good girl, the bad boy, falling in love while trying to fight it. He wants her, she doesn’t know what she wants. That concept isn’t new, but it really works out in this book. I also love the writing style of Maggie Stiefvater. It makes me want to read more and the characters sort of come alive on the pages.
I will not say too much, as I don’t want to spoil these series for anyone who hasn’t read them yet. If you like the genre, then I would definitely recommend the whole series.
