This review might contain spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read the first eleven parts of House of Night.

I started reading the first book of this series somewhere back in the fall of 2009. I thought there were just going to be five books, but then when I finished ‘Hunted’ I found out that part six (Tempted) would soon be there. I never could have guessed that the series went all the way up the twelve books and four novellas. To be honest, I didn’t think that was necessary either. For me six books would have been enough, because from that point I thought the story was dragging on real slowly. It was no longer fast paced. Nevertheless I still wanted to find out what would happen with everyone and I have always kept on reading. Therefore I finished reading ‘Redeemed’ this weekend.

What the book is about

In the final electrifying novel in the HoN series, Neferet has finally made herself known to mortals. A Dark Goddess is loose on Tulsa and the world. No single vampyre is strong enough to vanquish her – unless that creature has the power to summon the elements as well as the ability to wield Old Magick. Only Zoey Redbird is heir to such power…but because of the consequences of using Old Magick, she is unable to help. Find out who will win and who will lose in this epic battle of Light versus Darkness.

What I think about the book

Zoey Redbird has no more time for what she used to call ‘bullpoopy’. No, the events and bullshit that has been going on at Tulsa’s House of Night are really forcing her to grow up. I am glad to read that she is finally ready to do so. I always thought that this girl needed a kick-in-the-butt. I mean, boytrouble? Seriously? The whole world seems to fall apart, so boys should be the last thing she needs to worry about. This time our fledging High Priestess is no longer just a girl with too much power and responsibilities, but she is turning into a young woman who knows how to kick ass. We’ve had to wait a while, but there she is! With Stark, Aurox, Darius, Aphrodite and the rest of the Nerd Herd by her side, she should be able to kick Neferet’s ass once and for all. Will she do it though? It is not going to be easy…

I have always loved the character of Stevie-Rae a whole lot throughout the series, but this book has a bigger role for Shaunee and I must admit that was refreshing as well. I like her a lot more since she is no longer part of ‘the twins’. Shaunee is a powerful young woman and it was nice to actually see a little more of her. Together with Thanatos she plays a big role in holding up a powerful spell.

Will this all be enough to deal with Neferet, who calls herself Goddess and Queen Tsi Sgili and has made the Mayo her temple. Will Light win this battle against Darkness, or will the world end up worshiping this awful woman? Not for one moment there was a doubt in my mind of for what was supposed to happen, but the great thing was that there are a few surprises along the way. The outcome is unknown until the very end and I was almost doubting that it would be the last book after all… But yes, there it was, what we’ve all been waiting for. I will leave that up to you if you want to read the book. Not going to spoil the end, but for me it was a good ending to these series.
