Pictures or it didn’t happen – Sophie Hannah
Title: Pictures or it didn’t happen
Author: Sophie Hannah
My rating: ★★★★★
Only one paperback to go to complete my goal for paperback summer and since I knew I could not read much with a newborn baby in the house, I picked a novella this time. My average page count is was pretty high all summer, so I don’t mind finishing the list with a shorter story. I got this book as a present from my dear friend Suzanne and I was curious as to what it was about.
What the book is about
After Chloe and her daughter Freya are rescued from disaster by a man who seems too good to be true, Chloe decides she must find him again to thank him. But instead of meeting her knight in shining armour, she comes across a woman called Nadine Caspian who warns her to stay well away from him. The man is dangerous, Nadine claims, and a compulsive liar. Alarmed, Chloe asks her what she means, but Nadine will say no more.
Chloe knows that the sensible choice would be to walk away – after all, she doesn’t know anything about this man. But she is too curious. What could Nadine have meant? And can Chloe find out the truth without putting herself and her daughter in danger?
What I think about the book
I really loved this story. It was well-written and it made me laugh out loud. That’s a good sign. It made me want to read, even though I hardly had any time to do so.
Main character Chloe meets a very nice man at her daughter’s audition for a musical and he seems too good to be true. I must admit that Tom did not give me a creepy feeling at all, neither did Chloe seem very naive to me. So what is it that Nadine wants to tell Chloe about him? It really did make me curious. Would he turn out to be an ax-murderer or was there going to be any real danger?
The plot was very good, as it turned out nothing like I suspected it would. Even though it wasn’t a very long story, Sophie Hannah managed to get a good plot twist into the story and I really liked that. If you’re looking for a short read for whatever reason, look no further, as Pictures or it didn’t happen will be an excellent choice.
